About
The Ohio Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity strives to provide a unique and fulfilling experience for all of its members. Since its founding at Case in 1995, SigEp has shed the pledge process generally associated with fraternities. With the concept of the Balanced Man Program at the core of SigEp, we offer a program that develops its members as students, brothers, professionals, and good citizens.
SigEp ranks consistently in the top third of fraternities when regarding GPA and offers support programs to encourage the academic achievement of the brothers. SigEp was recently recognized by the national fraternity as a Phi Beta Kappa Wheelhouse chapter for maintaining above a 3.15 GPA during the 2008 calendar year.
SigEp has been active on campus and in the community as well. During the 2007-2008 school year, SigEp won both of Case’s Greek Intramural leagues. SigEp also won the 2009 Greek Week Championship, marking it's second consecutive victory and it's sixth first place finish out of the last eight years. Eleven SigEp brothers also gave up their spring breaks to help build a Habitat house in Corpus Christi, Texas. While in Corpus Christi, President and three year trip coordinator Josh Hodnichak made the nightly news. The brothers generated 440 man hours of service on the way towards completing 914 hours as a fraternity for the 2008-2009 school year, almost 250% of the required hours by Case Greek Life.
With increasing support from alumni and faculty, SigEp is a great way to network and meet new people outside of the student body. SigEp has recently recruited a new Chapter Councelor, Joe Gutowski. Joe works in the Office of Student Activities and Leadership. He is an alum of the University of Michigan where he was a SigEp during his undergraduate years. As the Chapter Councelor, Joe provides cohesiveness to the chapter. As the undergraduate ranks of SigEp are renewed every four years, Joe is there to provide stability. He helps with goal setting and mentoring the chapters Executive Board (EBoard).
Ryan Keytack is the chapters Faculty Advisor. Ryan works in the office of Undergraduate Admissions. As the Faculty Advisor, Ryan oversees the 2.75/3.0 GPA club and is particularly active in seeing that SigEp maintains high academic standards.
Larry Colucci is the Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) president and is a founding father of the chapter here at Case. Larry is instrumental in helping raise funds for the annual SigEp Alternative Spring Break Trip, as well as coordinating alumni/undergraduate activities. More information can be found about active alumni and volunteers in the Alumni section.
All in all, SigEp offers an exceptional opportunity to complement a student’s undergraduate experience. With programs in place that set students up for success academically, SigEp offers programs locally and nationally to develop a student into a leader. SigEp encourages its brothers to get involved in the chapter and on campus. A SigEp currently sits on Case’s Interfraternity Congres (IFC for short), as the VP of Service. Another SigEp helped cofound the Health Care Service Leaders (HCSL) group here on campus.
SigEp also hosts a bianual national conference where representatives from all chapters meet up and receive training as well as discuss the future of the fraternity. As the largest undergraduate fraternity, this gathering is unlike any offered by Greek Organization. This summer, President Josh Hodnichak and Vice President of Finance Jon Barrett will represent the Ohio Sigma chapter in Orlando, Florida.
Nationally, SigEp offers the leadership continuum to provide leadership training to members who seek it. EDGE is the new members program that all members get to participate in. Carlson is a leadership training weekend specifically focused on training for the newly elected EBoard at the beginning of every calendar year. The Ruck Leadership Institute is a week long, high intensity leadership retreat that any member can apply for. And finally, SigEp is the only national fraternity that offers a retreat to Greece that a handful of members are selected to, all expenses paid. Whatever it is you look to accomplish while you’re at Case, SigEp can help you do it better.
